Veteran clothing drive

Veteran’s Corner

Tom Krabbenhoft

Holiday tidings and warm greetings to all. I’m done with the brown, brown Christmas that is. I hope this finds everyone prepared.
There is a mitten, glove, hat and warm weather clothing drive going on for veterans. You can bring NEW items to any Fix It Forward location, the friendly American Legion in Moorhead and the Cass County Courthouse outside the Veterans Service Officers Office. If you can help with new items please bring by.
The Moorhead Spuds Wrestling team, The Fargo Memorial Honor Guard and Theta Chi are going to be handing out 150 meals. It will be a ham dinner and take place on Saturday the 23rd. 35-50 will be delivered to veterans. The rest will be served at the downtown Fargo VFW, from 11-2, until gone. This is the 2nd year this has been done.
Wreaths Across America took place this last weekend. The warm weather definitely was a plus. Approximately 250 showed up to help lay wreaths. 800 wreaths were laid at the Fargo National Cemetery. As the wreath is placed their name is said, so they are not forgotten.
The wreath has symbolic meanings all the way back to ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed the wreath represents the circle of life.
The wreath to Roman’s was power and wealth. Roman Emporers/Ceasars wore wreaths on their heads. Roman Legion standards bore wreaths to symbolize eternal life to the Legion.
Sadly cancel culture is attempting to uproot this.
Wreaths Across America will hopefully always remain a tradition.
Christmas is one of the loneliest times to be deployed. We have many thousands service members deployed. Please, if you know one reach out and say “hi” and remember them in your prayers.
