Today is a great day to do business in Moorhead
“Inspire Innovation Lab’s mission is to be the region’s most trusted deliverer of STEM development, resources and education,” explained Carrie Leopold at a recent “Let’s Talk Business” breakfast. Inspire Innovation Lab is an educational nonprofit center that specializes in science, technology, engineering, math, art, and entrepreneurship. As the Founder and CEO of the nonprofit, she said that one of the goals is to provide “just in time” support for teachers who are planning their next lessons. The nonprofit provides encouragement, inspiration, and resources (in person and supplies) for innovative ideas.
One of the cornerstone programs of the nonprofit is a Professional Development Day, which is offered to school districts and includes a range of training sessions from half-day to full week sessions. One of those classes is STEM, which is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education. Inspire Innovation Lab focuses on these areas together because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are essential for student success. The fields are deeply interconnected in the real world and in how students learn most effectively. Other focus areas include Blended Learning, Microsystems Education, Engaging Underrepresented Students in the Classroom, and Gender and Diversity in the Classroom. In addition, the nonprofit provides research and program evaluations to school districts.
As one of the keys to success is community involvement, Leopold listed several local organizations that are involved including MSUM, Sanford, and the FM Area Foundation. She stated that volunteers are always welcome to help make activities run more smoothly. Financial support is greatly appreciated, which is not only tax exempt, but also comes with their overflowing gratitude. Finally, she said that the organization is always looking for items to use in the lab; “If you don’t need it, we may have a use for it.”
