Today is a great day to do business in Moorhead

“The summer of 2014 has not had any dull moments in Moorhead’s economic development activities,” stated Matt Maslowski, Moorhead Economic Development Director. Maslowski and Mark Vaux, Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Executive Vice President of Business Development, spoke at the Moorhead Business Association breakfast. They confirmed that our area continues to experience a fast pace of economic growth across the region.

Vaux referenced a recent Forbes’ study ranking Fargo as the number one location among small cities for businesses and careers. However, he emphasized that Moorhead played a large part in achieving that recognition. Vaux added that the national media often don’t differentiate between the cities. Both Vaux and Maslowski agreed that the Red River means very little to economic development of the area.

Maslowski highlighted several recent examples of new developments in Moorhead, ranging from the overdue renovation of the former Coach’s site and becoming the new Moorhead Billiards, to the new full-service dining establishment of Rustica Eatery in Uptown Moorhead. These developments confirm Maslowski’s assertion that Moorhead is on solid economic ground, and it is gaining renewed momentum in terms of economic development. He also indicated that numerous private developers are expressing interest in future developments.

Even though the buzz of new development is exciting, Economic Development Director Maslowski reminded the members that expansion of existing businesses is also extremely important, if not more so, for the overall economic well-being of the community. Our existing businesses are the backbone of our community’s economy, and his department is here to support these businesses as well. There are various programs in place to assist expansion and growth of these existing businesses. As an important example, he highlighted the current incentives for the Aggressive Towing & Recovery’s expansion plans to build a 4,600 square foot building. The company serves Moorhead and the surrounding area with towing cars, trucks, and semis for business owners and the general public.

Incentives are in place for both existing and new business expansions to ensure Moorhead remains a well-rounded and growing community. Give Maslowski a call for details.
