Today is a great day to do business in Moorhead

“Area employers often are not able to find qualified and skilled employees,” is the perspective that G.L. Tucker shared with the Moorhead business community. As the Dean of Custom Training and Business & Entrepreneurial Services with Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Tucker explained that there are two sides to the economic upswing in the local area. The low unemployment rate is certainly good news for those seeking employment, but at the same time it hinders companies to expand and grow. Without a pool of qualified workers, many local companies must delay expansion plans or, even worse, open operations in other cities or states.

Tucker stated that M State College is one of the answers. To help relieve the worker shortage, the M State Custom Training Services (CTS) department has assisted various companies to expand, to become more efficient, and to develop a more skilled workforce. He pointed out that an investment in staff training and development will help alleviate skill shortages, either by providing training for new hires or by helping the current staff handle increased responsibilities or new technology. CTS provides the necessary skills and technology training for individuals and organizations. The training is customized for the specific company and is available on-site, on campus, online or a combination, whichever fits the company’s goals and needs.

Tucker invited businesses with employment needs to consider the M State Custom Training Service option. With effective skill development strategies in place, companies will be better able to meet a range of business challenges from labor shortages to staff retention. Developing skills will help generate the kind of performance that will carry the business and employees to success.

A well-designed training program that maximizes learning before, during, and after instruction translates into positive, lasting changes on the job.
