Some More “Old Stuff”

NONE

Last week we went out to see a band and dance a couple songs. We really weren’t planning on being out too late, because unlike up north, where the bands start at 9 p.m. and play till the wee hours, here in the Arizona retirement area, many bars have the band start at 4 p.m. and play till 8 p.m. When you are a senior, going out is good; coming home is better!

Cool, huh? You get to go home and watch the 9 o’clock news and snooze. The older you get, you begin to sleep better in a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It’s called “pre-sleep.”

Old age does become more complicated with things like computers, VCR’s, DVR’S, DVD’s and GPS stuff. You miss the days when everything worked with just an “On” and “Off” switch. The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don’t care to do them anymore.

Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it’s not safe to wear it anywhere.

It sounds as though everybody whispers, and what used to be freckles are now liver spots, and you notice that everything they sell in stores is sleeveless. You have three sizes of clothes in your closet, two of which you will never wear.

Wonder what to do when you get old? Passing the time is not a problem. Your days are eaten up by simple daily activities. Just getting out of our car takes 15 minutes. Trying to find where we parked takes another 20 minutes.

It can even get confusing looking for your resort home. Let’s see, do I live in Sun Village? Fountain of the Sun? Apache Sun? Sunland Community? Superstition Sun? Sun Valley or Sun of a Gun?

Many of us go to Costco to partake of the many tasty samples dispensed by ladies in white hair nets. All free! After a filling lunch, if we don’t have any doctor appointments, we might go to the flea market to see if any new white belts have come in, or to buy a Rolex watch for $2.00.

Well, they say it’s not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived. Today is the oldest we’ve ever been, yet the youngest we’ll ever be, so we’ll just enjoy it while it lasts. From somewhere in the sun country… stay warm this winter! We will.
