Seminar on Investing Basics

The Village Family Service Center will presen

“Investing Basics,” on March 19, 2014, 6-7 p.m., at the

Dakota Medical Foundation, 4141 28th Ave. S., Fargo.

Before you dive into investing your hard-earned money, it’s important to know the basics.  At this seminar, learn the difference between stocks and bonds, the many types of IRAs and how they work, and how a mutual fund works. You’ll also learn how to calculate the risk versus reward of your investment decisions.

Youth Aerospace Program SetIf you’re 12 to 15 years old and aerospace fascinates you, the North Dakota State University Extension Service has a program for you.

The 2014 4-H Aerospace Event will be held April 27-28 at the University of North Dakota’s School of Aerospace Sciences in Grand Forks.

Youth will be able to:

* Learn the basics of aircraft structure, navigation, aerodynamics and air

traffic control

* Discover careers in the aerospace field

* Take the controls in a digital aircraft simulator

* Tour the UND aerospace facility

Youth do not need to be a 4-H member to participate in this event.

The registration fee is $35, which includes lodging, materials, an evening meal and snack on April 27, and a continental breakfast the morning of April 28.

Youth must be accompanied by a chaperone, who is required to register and pay the same fee. One chaperone should accompany every four or five youth.

The registration deadline is April 9. Registrations will be accepted on a first- come, first-served basis.

Food for Fines! March Amnesty

at Lake Agassiz Regional Library!

Bring your overdue library material back to the library with an unexpired, non-perishable food item and we’ll erase your late fee during the month of March!

Lake Agassiz Regional Library will accept “Food for Fines” at all of its 21 locations during the month of March, working in cooperation with Minnesota FoodShare’s campaign.

Library customers are encouraged to return overdue library materials (books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and Books on CD) and pay overdue fines with donations of non-perishable, unexpired food items that will be gifted to local food banks throughout our Northwest Minnesota region.

Support this worthwhile effort regardless of whether or not you have a fine. It is a wonderful opportunity to help those in need and celebrate the many services provided by Lake Agassiz Regional Library.

Any donation of unexpired, non-perishable food is welcomed.

1 non-perishable food item=$2 fine waived. (Not valid for lost items or replacement charges.)

125th Photo Contest Winners Announced

Moorhead, Minn., Feb. 26, 2014 … As part of Minnesota State University Moorhead’s 125th anniversary celebration, students zwere asked to participate in a photo contest using the number “125” in a creative way.

Michael Walt, Danielle Rebel and Alecs Peters took first, second and third place in the photo contest, respectively. The winning photos will be featured on campus for the remainder of the Spring 2014 semester.

The contest was intended to provide a unique, hands-on way for students, faculty and staff to participate in the university’s 125th celebration. Entries are posted on the MSUM 125th Photo Contest board on Pinterest, as well as MSUM’s Twitter and Facebook accounts.
