One of my favorite events hits Downtown Grand Forks this weekend.

That’s right it’s Art Fest Time. From the food vendors, the music, and the awesome things to buy Art Fest has it all. My daughter especially loves the fresh lemonade. 2012 marks the ten year anniversary of Art Fest, sponsored by Altru Health Systems and the North Dakota Department of Commerce Tourism Division. This year’s festivities include over 150 artists, plus food vendors in 2 food courts, and 2 days of live performances. Festivities begin Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. This is one of those events you do not want to miss! For more information, including a map and list of vendors and sponsors visit: http://www.novac.org/grand-cities-art-fest.html

Temporary Road Closure

When summer hits everyone loves the season, with one exception, construction. On June 1st the City of Grand Forks has closed traffic on North Columbia Road from Gateway Drive to Bacon Road as they repair a storm sewer break at the English Coulee. The project is expected to take about one week to complete, weather permitting. For more information on construction projects visit the city website: www.grandforksgov.com

GF Energy Sustainability

Coordinator Named to

State Post

From the City of Grand Forks: Debra Pflughoeft-Hassett, the Energy Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Grand Forks, has been named the Vice-chair of the North Dakota chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The Council is the leader for the transformation to a more ecological way of planning and building that incorporates green design principles.

Pflughoeft-Hassett has been with the City of Grand Forks for the past 2 ½ years in a Department of Energy grant-funded position. Her efforts have helped lead to traffic signal coordination throughout Grand Forks, energy efficiency upgrades at the Central Fire station, and a study to better manage and find more efficiencies for the city landfill.

Her job reaches beyond city government as well. A residential program has been started, and cooperative efforts with the University of North Dakota are underway. Just recently, Pflughoeft-Hassett published a sustainability report that looks for additional opportunities to save money, energy, and maintain the environment in Grand Forks.
