Some of us may be preparing our New Year’s Resolutions as we approach 2015 this week. Others are likely swamped with year-end close out of business for 2014. Whatever you are currently planning individually or as a business one thing is certain, a new year is upon us indeed.
As a business, we all have an opportunity to look at the results of 2014 in sales, operating costs, employees retained or lost, customer base, and overall state of the business. Here is your chance to find the positives in the results and pick the opportunities out to focus on heading into next year. I challenge our business owners to celebrate the positives with your staff, after all most of them likely played a critical role in helping you reach that success.
On a personal note, I was born on New Year’s Day. Each year as I’ve turn another digit, I have focused on goals for the year and not necessarily resolutions. Setting a bar for goals has always been important to me both in my personal life and in business. Working in the private sector managing banks, I realized the importance of setting goals with your team, tracking those goals, and ensuring that you celebrate as a team and those individuals who contribute to success above and beyond the norm.
I am proud to be part of “Team City Hall” here at the City and I could not be happier with some tremendous successes this community has had this year. It is hard for me to think that I am going on year two here in my position. My mother would say to me as a kid: “Time flies when you are having fun.” It has not just been fun at times, but it has been fulfilling to build on this new position and enhancing relationships in the region all while learning about the community, businesses, and residents. This has been exciting for me, but it also takes consistent effort to forge positivity and relational partnerships and I thank you in the community for helping me along the way to make Moorhead the best it can be to our residents and businesses.
Have a safe and Happy New Year!
See you around town!
