Neighbor Block Clubs

School will soon be out. I’ve got summer clean-up and planting my flower boxes on my mind. I love this time of year. It’s also the time of year when I connect better with my neighbors, other than a wave as we run into our homes to get warm.

My family knows our neighbors and they all know us. We have regular block activities, and it was the perfect place to raise my kids. That, to me, is one of my favorite things about Moorhead. We are connected as a community. It is particularly evident on the first Tuesday of August each year, when 80 block clubs meet to celebrate Night to Unite with each other. My block has done it for 19 years now. We have 80-100 people in attendance. We have a number of new neighborhoods in Moorhead, so I think it is a good time to encourage people to connect with each other. It’s good for our kids, it’s good for safety, and it’s good for each of us to connect with each other. Your neighborhood can become an official Block Club very easily. “A Neighborhood Block Club is a group of neighbors that agree to meet twice a year, watch out for each other and the neighborhood’s children and work with the Police to prevent crime.” You can find additional information on the City website at http://www.cityofmoorhead.com and searching for “neighborhood block clubs” or by contacting LeAnn Wahlin at 218-299-5143.
