The American Public Power Association has recognized Moorhead Public Service for “achieving exceptional electric reliability” in 2021.
The honor comes from the American Public Power Association, a trade group made up of more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities.
“We are proud to receive this recognition,” MPS general manager Travis Schmidt said. “It is a testament to the hard work of all our staff to ensure that we keep Moorhead powered.”
The award is based on data collected by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The association tracks power outage and restoration data for all types of electric utilities. According to its report, the average public power customer’s power is interrupted for less than half the amount of time experienced by for-profit utilities.
In presenting the award, APPA official Alex Hofmann said, “Once again, public power utilities have demonstrated their commitment to providing highly reliable power to their customers. We commend them for their hard work when it comes to keeping the lights on in their communities.”
