MoorHeart Award presented to Abdishakur Mohamed

Mayor Shelly Carlson presents the September MoorHeart award to Abdishakur Mohamed of Soma Employment Solutions.

Abdishakur Mohamed, who helps Moorhead’s new Americans find job opportunities in their new community, has been honored with the city’s MoorHeart Award. Mayor Shelly Carlson presented the award – an original piece of art created by local artist Dennis Krull – at Monday’s city council meeting.
Mohamed founded Soma Employment Solutions five years to help recent immigrants find work in the area. He acts as their ambassador, working with area businesses to highlight how the newcomers can help fill the need for workers to help their companies grow.
Saynab Jama nominated Mohamed, writing that he has made “a significant impact on the immigrant community in Moorhead through his dedication and efforts.”
She continued, “His work has not only helped bridge the gap between workforce demand and supply, but has also created numerous opportunities for new Americans in Minnesota and North Dakota. By providing highly customized and workable solutions to clients, Abdishakur ensures integrity, sustainability, and service excellence … connecting them with employers who value their skills and contributions.
“By creating job opportunities, filling the workforce gap, advocating for perceptual change, and delivering exceptional service, Abdishakur has empowered new Americans and contributed to the growth and diversity of the local economy.”
The monthly MoorHeart Award recognizes those doing great things, large and small, throughout the city. To learn more and nominate candidates, go to cityofmoorhead.com and search for “MoorHeart.”
