Zak Devig made a crucial save during the Boys Lacrosse Section 8A Quarterfinal against Elk River on May 29. The Spuds exploded out of the gate with a five-goal first quarter en route to a dominating 16-4 win to open the postseason. Evan Wanner racked up four goals, while Carter Midthune and Joel Egerdahl each scored three times. Egerdahl’s third goal marked his 79th career goal, making him the Spuds’ all-time leader in career goals. Moorhead will host the Section 8A Championship Game on Thursday when the top-seeded Spuds host #2 St. Michael-Albertville at Jim Gotta Stadium for the right to advance to the State Tournament. Sydney Martinson carries the ball up the field during the Girls Lacross Section 8A Quarterfinal game against St. Cloud on May 29. Martinson tallied six goals as the Spuds claimed a back-and-forth contest over the Crush 14-11. She also reached a personal milestone of 200 career draw controls during the playoff match.
