When I first met Carrie Leopold, she was wearing a silver necklace that was in the shape of the molecule for chocolate. She is a proud science geek, and the driver behind a new nonprofit, Inspire Innovation Lab, which is now moving into the Moorhead Center Mall. The group, which seems to be a mixture of scientists, teachers, and artists, is bustling to paint bold, fun murals on the wall, and gathering science equipment, supplies and furnishings in preparation for their first workshops that begin this June.
The activities are for ages 7 to 9, and ages 10-14, and include art and science workshops on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The workshop have names such as Grossology, Krazi Kinetics, Whyology of Biology, Mr. Roboto, Forensics, or Collage me Crazy to name a few. Local Moorhead Artist, Carrie Wendt is the talent behind the art. My kids are past this age group, but they would have been first in line for these fun summer opportunities. If you’d like more information, check out their Facebook page, Inspire Innovation Lab or their website, www.inspireinnovationlab.org. It’s so new that it’s still under construction, but it will give you an opportunity to check out the workshops and register. Most classes are limited to 15 kids. Yep, it’s a great time to be the Mayor of Moorhead.
