Three graduates and a retired teacher will be inducted into the Moorhead High School Hall of Honor at a recognition ceremony at 5 p.m. Sept. 27 at Minnesota State University Moorhead.

Tickets for the ceremony are $20 and must be purchased by Tuesday, Sept. 23. Limited tickets are available. Contact Dean Haugo in the Moorhead High School Activities Office, 2300 4th Ave. S., at 284-2346 to purchase tickets. When purchasing tickets please indicate if you are attending in honor of a certain inductee.

2014 Hall of Honor InducteesFour inductees have been selected as the 2014 members of the Moorhead High School Hall of Honor. They are James A. Garrity, Mark Ladwig, Vivian “Jake” Jacobson and Helen Wussow.

• James A. Garrity, a 1972 Moorhead High School graduate, earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1980 and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine in 1984. He returned to Mayo Clinic in 1986, where he is currently the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Professor of Ophthalmology. He specializes in neuro-ophthalmology, orbital diseases and surgery, especially orbital inflammations, orbital tumors and thyroid eye disease.

• Mark Ladwig, a 1999 Moorhead High School graduate, was a competitive pairs figure skater until he retired from competing in 2013. During his skating career, Ladwig made 13 appearances at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, earned six U.S. Figure Skating Championship medals, competed at the World Championships twice, and placed 10th at the 2010 Olympic Games in pairs figure skating.

• Vivian “Jake”Jacobson taught for 10 years in North Dakota and Minnesota schools before being named U.S.O. program director of the European Theater of War, staging performances during World War II. During her 31 years teaching for Moorhead Area Public Schools, Jacobson taught music and fifth grade at Park School for two years and then music at Riverside Elementary. Jacobson was affiliated with the Tri-College Student Teaching Program, supervising a record 245 student teachers. Vivian Jacobson died on Nov. 1, 2008, at age 92.

• Helen Wussow,a 1978 Moorhead High School graduate, has spent 22 years in academe, including 14 years working in university administration. Since 2010, Wussow has served as dean of lifelong learning and associate professor of English at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Wussow has written, edited or reviewed numerous journal articles, books and book chapters, and she presents on modern British and European literature nationally and internationally.

About the Hall of HonorThe Moorhead High School Hall of Honor recognizes alumni, faculty, staff and other community members who have demonstrated notable accomplishments or provided significant contributions to their school, community or society.

The nominations committee is now considering candidates for 2015. Nominations are continuously accepted for the Hall of Honor. Nomination forms are available at www.moorheadschools.org or Moorhead High School. Nominations may be submitted online. Nominations previously received are kept to be considered for future recognition.
