Moorhead Community Education announces 2014 recognition honorees

Moorhead Community Education, a program of Moorhead Area Public Schools, honored several people at its annual recognition event in April.

Three volunteers for Adult Basic Education, a program of Community Education, were recognized for their years of service tutoring the learners at ABE. Cheryl Youngs, Shelda Warren and Arne Teigland have combined to provide more than 20 years of volunteer tutoring service to ABE.

Ed and Joyce Westfall, certified ballroom dance instructors, were featured on the spring catalog cover. They were recognized for teaching dance classes for Community Education during the past several years.

Russ Hanson not only teaches bread-baking classes for Community Education, but he also takes the cover photos for the catalogs.

The other honorees were staff members who are moving on from their work with Community Education. Computer technician Ed Breedon has provided necessary technology support for Community Education for the past several years.

Marjo Lysne retired in December when the GED test structure changed nationwide. For many years, Lysne coordinated the GED testing program, maintained student records, completed reports and supported those aiming to earn their GEDs.

Bonnie Herman has been with Community Education since 1994 as the ABE program manager, where she has administered the program and its budget, overseen grants and helped students who may be new to the country or who haven’t succeeded before to move their lives ahead.
