A City Council meeting involves making and amending laws, developing policy and making decisions on the governing of your city by citizens who you elect to the City Council.

The Moorhead City Council is comprised of nine members. One Mayor and eight Council Members. Two Council Members represent each of the four wards of the City. The terms of the office of Mayor and Council Members are four years and until a successor is elected and qualifies for office. One Council Member must be elected from each ward every two years. City elections are held in even-numbered years.

According to the City’s website, the City Council typically meets every second, third and fourth Mondays of each month at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers located on first floor of City Hall, 500 Center Avenue. Regular City Council Meetings occur on the second and fourth Mondays. Committee of the Whole meetings take place on the third Mondays. Citizens can view a full list of scheduled City Council meetings on the City’s website.

At regular City Council meetings, the Council acts on official City of Moorhead business. At Committee of the Whole Meetings Council Members discuss City business or other matters of interest as determined by the Council. No official action is taken at Committee of the Whole meetings.

Agendas are typically published the Thursday afternoon preceding the scheduled City Council meeting. This includes the meeting schedule and full packet of agenda-related materials.

Minutes are published following formal Council approval at a subsequent Council meeting.

Video of Council meetings can be viewed live on this page or at any time following the meeting.Meetings are also broadcast on the Moorhead Community Access Media (MCAM) channel. A broadcast schedule can be found on the MCAM website.

Resolutions are formal documents specifically describing a Council approved action. All resolutions approved at each Council meeting are published no later than one week following the Council meeting.
