The Council approved two property tax exemptions.

The granting of property tax exemptions increases the community’s long-term economic vitality. The creation of jobs will increase employment opportunities for Moorhead residents and will expand the property tax base. In addition, existing business will benefit by increasing the total number of businesses, which will make Moorhead a destination to more customers.

Public Hearing:

Muscatell Collision Center Property Tax Exemption Incentive

Estimate incentive value: $14,400

Voting requirements: Majority of Quorum

Passed Unanimously

· The Muscatell Collision Center received a property tax exemption for the proposed construction of a 6,000 square foot addition to their current business located at 1416 30th Avenue South to meet the needs of their growing automotive body shop business.

· The addition will allow the company to offer additional services such as the repair of new aluminum body parts that are becoming more common in the marketplace.

· Employees: The business currently employs approximately nine full-time equivalent positions. Wages are above the minimum wage of $9.15. The project will create three new positions that will be paid well above the minimum wage.

· Construction of the project will begin in July 2014 with an estimated completion of September 2014.

Personal Touch Embroidery & Marketing Inc. Property Tax Exemption Incentive

Estimate incentive value: $21,000

Voting requirements: Majority of Quorum

Passed Unanimously

· Personal Touch Embroidery received a property tax exemption for the proposed construction of a 9,000 square foot addition to the existing embroidery and marketing business located at 2600 24 Ave S. The addition will allow the company to offer additional services such as digital printing and vehicle wraps for cars, trucks, and large buses. A portion of the expansion will be left unfinished for future office space.

· Employees: The business currently employs approximately twenty-one full-time equivalent positions. Wages are above the minimum wage of $9.15. The project will create four or five new positions that will be paid well above the minimum wage.

· Construction of the project will begin in July 2014 with an estimated completion of September 2014.

14th Street South Closed

for Watermain Replacement

Beginning Tuesday, July 29, 2014, 14th Street from 9th Avenue South to 12th Avenue South will be closed. Moorhead Public Service’s (MPS’) crews will be replacing aged watermain in the area. The project is expected to be completed by August 16, 2014.

MPS encourages commuters to find alternate routes during the road closure.

MPS is a community-owned utility serving the residents of Moorhead, Minnesota, with electricity and water.
