Nelson’s Pumpkin Patch 2014:

Nelson’s Farm is not only the place to find all your fall produce & Halloween decorations, but also a great place to bring your entire family for a full day of fun! Take a hayride through the woods, walk through the Haunted Hollow Road, feed the goats and chickens, find your way out of the pre-school straw maze and if you are brave enough enter the Gruesome Granary Haunted House. They still have the two-acre corn maze, however if you are looking for more of a challenge this year they have a Ten Acre Spider Web Corn Maze! They also have games, shopping, concessions and much, much more!

Fargo Oktoberfest:

The Old Broadway in Fargo

Friday: Tapping of the keg ceremony at 4:30 p.m., Brats & Beer on Broadway from 5 to 7, pre-party from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday: Kegs & Eggs at 10 a.m., pub crawl starts at 11 a.m., Filthy 5k at noon sponsored by Beyond Running, Root Beer Fest for all ages from noon to 2 p.m., music by O’Dell Braaten, hot dog eating contest at 2, Running of the Wieners at 4 in front of The Old Broadway with prizes awarded for first, second and third place plus awards for best costumes; more information at www.fargooktoberfest.com.

United Hearts Annual Chicken Dinner:

The Pumpkin Patch:

Location: Dakota Carriage Co. at 7414 40th Ave. N in Fargo

Time: Fridays 3:00 – 6:00pm, Saturdays 11:00 – 6:00pm, Sunday 1:00 – 6:00pm. Also open Thurs Oct 16 & Fri Oct 17 from 1:00 – 6:00pm.

Cost: $5 on Fridays, $6 on Saturdays and Sundays

Areas largest Fall festival. One gate admission for over 20 attractions including horse wagon rides, 3 acre corn maze, 9 holes of mini golf, barrel train rides, old west town, and petting zoo. Come play for the day. Only 5 miles North of West Fargo.

Alpha Phi Cardiac Care 5K:

Location: Race starts at Alpha Phi Sorority (2626 University Ave) in Grand Forks

Date: October 4

Time: Registration 10:00am, Race Starts at 11:00am

Cost: Adults and Students – $15, Families – $50

The Pi Chapter of Alpha Phi at the University of North Dakota is sponsoring their Annual Alpha Phi 5K on October 4. The proceeds from the race will benefit the Alpha Phi Foundation, which supports Cardiac Care Units across North America, including our very own Altru Grand Forks.

Great Give Away:

Location: Messiah Lutheran Church Fargo at 2010 Elm St N

Date: October 4

Time: 8:00am – 12:00pm

Cost: Free

Our 29th Annual Great Give Away. This is a fundraiser for local charities. This year our recipients are FM Homeless Coalition, Great Plains Food Bank’s Back Pack Program, the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center. At our sale none of the items are marked. You take what you can use and pay what you can afford. We have household items, toys, holiday decorations, shoes, bags/purses, books, craft items and tons of clothes for all genders and sizes from infant through plus size.

Fan Appreciation Carnival and Bout:

Location: Skateland in Fargo

Date: October 4

Time: 5:30pm

Cost: $5

FM Derby Girls and Rock City Riot Fan Appreciation Carnival and Bout. Cupcakes, Face Painting, Open Skate, Games and Prizes all followed by a Co-Ed Roller Derby Bout where you can pick rules to change from a list.

Pancake Breakfast:

Location: Masonic Family Center at 1815 11th St. N. in Moorhead

Date: October 4

Time: 7:00 – 11:00am

Cost: $7

Buttermilk or Swedish pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee and orange juice. Proceeds benefit Masonic community events and projects.

“Not So Silent” Auction:

Location: Moorhead Public Library

Date: October 4

Time: 7:00pm

Cost: Free

Fundraiser supporting Lake Agassiz Regional Library. Silent Auction of local artwork and historic books, and a book sale of new & used items. Live music by The Almost There Not-Quite-Quartet, Cash Wise sponsored WINE TASTING, and more!

42nd Annual East Grand Forks Arts & Crafts Fair:

Location: Civic Auditorium and VFW Arena in East Grand Forks

Date: October 4 – 5

Time: 10:00am – 5:00pm on Saturday, 11:00am – 4:00pm on Sunday

Cost: $2 per person; 6 and Under Free

The area’s largest craft show returns for its 4nd year! Both venues – EGF Civic Auditorium and VFW Arena – will be filled with over a hundred vendors selling top quality arts and crafts. There will also be a free shuttle bus running between the two locations. Please NO strollers or pets.

Pancake Feed:

Location: VFW in Barnesville

Date: October 5

Time: 8:00am – 1:00pm

Cost: $6

Pancakes, sausage and eggs, $6 all you can eat. Proceeds benefit programs for veterans.

Roast Beef Dinner and Fall Festival:

Location: St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church at 601 15th Ave. N. in Moorhead

Date: October 5

Time: 11:00am – 4:00pm

Cost: $12 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12, free for age 5 and younger

Dinner, raffles, bingo, bakery, silent auction, country store, craft store, chocolate fantasy table, games and cake walk. Take-out meals available.

How to Start a Book Club:

Uncover the secrets to starting and sustaining a successful book club. You’ll learn the basics of how to find members, how to organize and structure the club, where and when to meet, how to pick the appropriate books, and who should lead.
