Edgar Allan Poe Event with scholar Susan Imbarrato:

Join us for an Edgar Allan Poe Event; a discussion with Susan Imbarrato, MSUM Professor, English Dept. Imbarrato will visit the Main Library to talk about Edgar Allan Poe, his works and literary legacy, followed by a Q & A.

Celtic Jam:

Location: Red Raven Espresso Parlor in Fargo

Anyone is welcome to join in on the fun! A group of people get together every 4th Thursday of the month to play traditional Celtic music out on the coffee shop floor. Any type of acoustic instrument is welcome. Do not play an instrument? Come out to be serenaded by the classic grooves and maybe even do a little dancing if your feet can not sit still.

National Book Awards at Concordia:

Authors Rachel Kushner, 2013 National Book Award finalist in fiction, and Wendy Lower, 2013 National Book Award finalist in nonfiction, will be on campus for the featured Readings and Conversation hosted by National Public Radio’s Lynn Neary. There will be a reception and book signing with the authors following the discussion. Harold Augenbraum, Executive Director of the National Book Foundation, will also be with us.

“The Spitfire Grill” Performance:

Percy Talbot has just been released from a five year prison sentence for manslaughter. She is trying to find a place for a fresh start, and based on a page from an old travel book, travels to the small town of Gilead, Wisconsin. The local sheriff, Joe Sutter, who is also Percy’s parole officer, finds her a job at Hannah’s Spitfire Grill – the only eatery in this struggling town. The Spitfire Grill is for sale. But with no interested buyers, Hannah decides to raffle it off. Entry fees are one hundred dollars and the best essay on why you want the grill wins. Soon, mail is arriving by the wheelbarrow full and things are definitely getting hot at the Spitfire Grill. This musical triumph is an inspiring celebration of fresh starts and the power of what one person can do.

The Poe Project- Buried Alive & Embedded:

Buried Alive, by composer Jeff Myers and Quincy Long, draws on themes of anxiety and mortality from Poe’s story “The Premature Burial,” as a painter’s nightmares of death start to become real.Embedded, by composer Patrick Soluri and librettist Deborah Brevoort, is wittily inspired by Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado,” as a TV news anchor finds herself on the other side of the headlines.

PRCA Championship Rodeo:

The PRCA’s membership includes more than 7,000 cowboys and performers (including permit holders and contract personnel), the largest segment of the association’s membership – more than 5,300 of who are actively competing. This membership segment includes a full range of contestants, from cowboys who compete in professional rodeo for a living, crisscrossing the country with their own horses or equipment, as well as those who work at other jobs during the week and compete in nearby rodeos on the weekends. The PRCA includes two $3 million earners and more than 80 million-dollar earners, yet most of its competing members participate in fewer than 30 rodeos each year.

BIG 98.7’s Celebrity Broomball Classic:

The Big Christmas Wish Program, operated by Big 98.7, will be inviting local celebrities to participate in a broomball scrimmage to help raise funds to continue to grant Christmas Wishes to families in need throughout the year! Big 98.7 has partnered with a competitive local broomball league, the Fargo Warriors to help in organizing a fun atmosphere for participants and spectators!! These local teams will compete against one another in a round robin style, single elimination scrimmage with the top team going head-to-head in the Championship game against the Fargo Warriors, the nation’s 8th ranked broomball team.

45th Annual UND Writers Conference:
