Be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide!
FARGO, N.D. (Dec. 5, 2013) – Carbon monoxide, also known as CO, is called the “invisible killer” because it’s a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. More than 150 people in the United States die every year from accidental non-fire related CO poisoning associated with consumer products, including generators. Other products include faulty, improperly used or incorrectly vented fuel-burning appliances such as furnaces, stoves, water heaters and fireplaces.
The Fargo Fire Department encourages you to have your natural gas, propane or liquid fuel fired appliances serviced annually and avoid the use of portable heaters. Have a carbon monoxide detector located on each level of your home, change the batteries in your CO detector every six months and replace the detector every five to seven years.
