Gooseberry Mound Park came alive Thursday with the sounds of al fresco jazz performed by the Kicks Band of Fargo-Moorhead.
The free concert brought together a dozen and a half of the area’s best musicians — many of them educators and professionals — for a program that ranged from “Lullaby of Birdland” and “Take Five” to “You Came a Long Way from St. Louis” and “Heartache Tonight.”
Directed by Tim Johnson, the group’s mission is to educate, perform and promote America’s authentic art form. Their summer concert schedule includes two more at Gooseberry on July 22 and Aug. 12, as well as others around the community:
July 21 at the Red River Valley Zoo with members of the Navy Band Great Lakes; Aug. 7, Red River Market (Downtown Square, Fargo); and Aug. 8, Kicks Band Jazz Festival, Island Park, Fargo.
