On Saturday August 10th, 2013 the Fargo Air Museum will be breaking ground for its Beck-Odegaard Wing addition. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Gerry Beck and Robert Odegaard served as founding members of the Museum and believed in the dream of a rotating flying museum. Along with other founding members, the vision was to build a series of three buildings to meet the mission “to provide aviation education through restoration and preservation.”
They inspired many people with their talent, knowledge and passion for flight. Both were natives of North Dakota who made their mark in the aviation world for the restoration of vintage aircraft. The new 150 x 100 foot building will display the B-25 Mitchell that Beck donated in the early years with hopes to create an interactive diorama to share the WWII history and stories of the Doolittle Raiders.
CAF AirPower History Tour will be at the Fargo Air Museum to honor the achievements of Beck and Odegaard and to commemorate the ground breaking ceremony. The AirPower History tour will be on display at the museum from August 5th to 11th. For more information visit AirPowerTour.org.
The Fargo Air Museum is also raffling a 2013 Ford Boss 302 Mustang as part of the fund raising efforts for the construction of the new addition. Tickets are $50 a piece and can be purchased at the Fargo Air Museum located at 1609 19th Ave North in Fargo ND, 58102. Hawley Fire News Release
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department and Hawley Fire Department have worked with the State Fire Marshal Division and determined the house fire in Hawley that killed 15-year-old Riley Efterfield was accidentally caused by the ignition of materials surrounding an improperly installed electrical outlet.
This fire is an opportunity to remind homeowners about important safety information. Law enforcement, fire officials and Rylie’s family remind homeowners to make sure that all smoke detectors are working properly and that there is an unblocked egress window in every bedroom in the house.
Remember, if you can’t see through the smoke, it is extremely dangerous. Do not attempt to make your way out through thick smoke — use another other exit.
Anyone with questions about whether wiring in their house is safe and/or code compliant should contact a licensed electrician. Anyone with questions about fire safety in their house should contact their local fire department.
There is also safety information on the State Fire Marshal Division website at:

North Dakota Department of Agriculture
Hunger Free ND Garden Project seeks produce donations
BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring is urging gardeners and produce growers to consider donating their surplus to a local food pantry or other charitable feeding organizations through the Hunger Free ND Garden Project.
“Although planting got off to a late start, summer vegetables are ripening in gardens across much of North Dakota, and many people are expecting bumper crops of beets, cucumbers, onions, scallions, kale, summer squash, zucchini and other produce,” Goehring said. “If you grow more vegetables than you and your family can eat, please donate some of them for distribution to the hungry.”
Goehring said a chart showing when fruits and vegetables are ready for harvest is available at www.healthynd.org/publications/InSeasonHarvestCalendar.pdf.
“Anyone from backyard gardeners to farmers market vendors to large-scale vegetable growers who grows vegetables and fruits can help out,” Goehring said. “If your local food pantry is not currently on the list, please ask them to consider accepting fresh produce.”
More information on the Hunger Free ND Garden Project, including a listing of agencies accepting donations, is available at www.nd.gov/ndda/program-info/local-foods-initiative/hunger-free-nd-garden-project or by contacting the North Dakota Department of Agriculture at (701) 328-2231 or (800) 242-7535 or ndda@nd.gov.
Now in its fourth year, the Hunger Free ND Garden Project is a joint effort of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA), Lutheran Social Services, Great Plains Food Bank, NDSU Extension Service, Dakota College at Bottineau, Entrepreneurial Center for Horticulture, Northern Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society, The North Dakota Farmers Market and Growers Association, Healthy North Dakota and Pride of Dakota.
The project encourages farmers and gardeners to plant extra produce for donation to food pantries, soup kitchens and other charitable community programs.
