Frostival Enjoy the Weather This Week

Saturday, Jan. 27
Fun at the Frozen Fortress, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., at Hjemkomst Center and Viking Ship Park. The day may (or may not, depending on weather) feature free cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals. Regardless, it includes games, a hot chocolate station and marshmallow roast, a scavenger hunt planned by River Keepers, a live DJ, face painting and more. Register at moorheadparks.com for

free activities, including outdoor yoga by Snowga, indoor sessions by DanceAttack, and (perhaps) a snowshoe hike hosted by River Keepers, as well as free admission to the the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County museum. LinkFM offers bus transportation from 14 downtown F-M bus stops from 10:30 to 3:30.

Kiwanis of Moorhead Foundation Chili Plus, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Hjemkomst Center. The service club’s annual fund-raiser features chili, hot dogs and all the trimmings – $10 for adults, $8 for students, and freee for children under 7 with a donation.

Ice Bowl Disc Golf Tournament at Woodlawn Park. Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the south end. Three-person teams start at any time between 10 and 2:30. Teams can preregister at https://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/Frostival_Ice_Bowl_2024/register

Beyond the Wonderland, 5-8 p.m. at the Lotus Center, 1401 8th St. S. Third annual winter fun and rave includes a team fort-building competition, snowball fights, firepit and dance with DJ IV, along with games and family activities.

Sunday, Jan. 28
“Uff Da It’s Cold Outside” Hotdish Time at the Moorhead American Legion, 303 30th St. N. Registration for the annual casserole contest begins at 11 a.m., followed by judging. Guests get to eat the entries beginning at 2 p.m. The event raises funds for the Veterans Honor Flights of North Dakota and Minnesota.

Friday-Sunday, Feb. 2-4
Freezin’ for a Reason – American Legion at the Moorhead American Legion. Volunteers spend the weekend camping outdoors to raise funds for Honor Flights. Friday: Music by Front Fenders, 7:30-11:30. Saturday: Sweet Saturday Morning doughnuts, apple cider and coffee, 8-11 a.m.; Soup Cook-Off, noon-2 p.m.; Corn Hole Tournament, 2-5 p.m.; music by Adios Pantalones, 7-11 p.m. Sunday: Legion Riders breakfast, 8:30-noon; Ice Cube Bingo, 3 p.m.; burgers all afternoon served by Sons of American Legion.

Saturday, Feb. 03
Snow Painting Party, 1-3 p.m., Viking Ship Park. Supplies provided by Open Spaces LLC.

Winter Warm-Up at the Rourke, 1-4 p.m. Hot cocoa bar in the courtyard. Browse handmade mugs, mittens, hats and scarves.

Saturday & Sunday, Feb. 3-4
Sleigh Rides at MB Johnson Park, 1-4 p.m. Frostival treats and refreshments in the small shelter. Reservations advised; call 218.299.5340. Tickets may be available on-site if space allows. Admission is $5/person (children two and under are free).

Sunday, Feb. 4
Winter Trail Days (depending on weather), noon -4 p.m. The Dakota Prairie chapter of the North Country Trail Association hosts an afternoon of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ski-shoeing if the weather permits. Mini-clinics and refreshments.

Stonewall Sports Kickball Tournament, 1-4 p.m., at MB Johnson Park.

18th Annual Cops & Kids Hockey Tournament, 4 p.m. Exhibition game at Moorhead Sports Center, with local youth vs. Moorhead Police Athletics and Activities League.
