veteran’s corner

Happy New Year one and all. I hope you’ve all established reasonably attainable 2023 goals. The world would be a better place if we all tried daily to be better than yesterday.
One Big Mac won’t make you fat, one salad won’t make you a thinner. Five steps will always be better than five chips.
An almost perfect melding of business, veterans, government, community and youth came together the end of 2022. They all came together on the 23rd of December, to offer a free Christmas meal to many that may not have had one. The Cass County Veterans Service Officers helped get meals to many veterans that needed them.
Beverage Wholesalers very generously donated a large truckload of hams, potatoes and fixings.
Chefs Table Catering donated their head chef Lacy to prepare the food, they also made mac n cheese and dinner rolls. The Fargo VFW post 762 provided the location and facilities too cook. Fargo Memorial Honor Guard rounded up volunteers and spread the word about the free meal.
Around 400 meals were distributed throughout the community. 240 came to the VFW to eat in person. Another 160 meals went out the door. If you recall it was a bad weather day and people like Mark H. volunteered to deliver many meals in his truck.
We had many volunteers show up along with my friends Gary, Grimmy, Leftovers, Bear and his wife Boo Boo included.
The real volunteer stars were the Moorhead Wrestling team and their parents that showed up last minute. The food was in the basement and the young men with their ability to fly up the stairs REALLY kept getting meals out the door effectively. Many of us there would’ve fallen up the stairs to get those meals out. The parents and wrestlers expressed interest in helping next year, as have others.
The wrestlers and all the volunteers showed exceptional respect to each and every person that came in.
Some things look brighter when you step back and look at them. This is one of them for sure and we had fun in the process of serving others.
Fargo VFW Post 762 and the Fargo American Legion post 2 deserve credit for kicking off 2023 right. Every year on New Year’s Day they do a free breakfast for the community. Pancakes, eggs, sausage with beverages, so it’s not a mere breakfast. I heard over 150 were served.
Pretty outstanding for the Fargo VFW and AL post 2 to finish 2022 strong and entering 2023 strong.
Thanks Ron, Sharon and all the post leadership for doing so much for the community.
