I recently proclaimed April 21 through 26, 2014 as “Earth Week” to encourage the citizens of Moorhead to make “every day Earth Day!” On Tuesday, Earth DAY, I will have attended a couple events, one at MSUM and one at Concordia. I know that Globe University will use that day to plant seedlings for a new Community Garden on campus, Moorhead Center Mall has information booths, and the topic of good stewardship of our planet’s resources will be a topic in many venues all week.
I hope you’ll take this week to consider your own stewardship practices. At one of my Coffees, a Moorhead resident pointed out to me that her neighbors aren’t recycling. I was surprised because I think everyone on my block seem to. We decided that the issue might be that she had a number of new neighbors and perhaps we simply don’t talk about it much after its initial roll out years ago. If you live in a house, you can get curbside recycling by simply picking up a special recycle container for $5 at the 3rd Floor of City Hall (my floor-500 Center Ave) or at the Public Works Facility ((700 15th Ave N. ) Additional information is on the City’s website (www.cityofmoorhead.com), click on the Resident tab. I hope you will consider what part you can play for making every day Earth Day.
