A series of construction projects are planned for downtown Moorhead later this year. Three turn lane improvement projects (at the intersections of Main Avenue and 8 Street South, Main Avenue and 11 Street South and Center Avenue and 11 Street South) and turning radius improvements at the Center Avenue and 8 Street South intersection aim to ease congestion during train crossings.
“It’ll help time the signal better as well, so even when the trains aren’t running that will make things run smoother,” said Assistant City Engineer Tom Trowbridge. “This gives people an option and allows them to keep moving.”
A mill and overlay project will resurface much of Main Avenue between 8 Street South and 19 Street South as well as a portion of Center Avenue between 11 Street North. MNDot will oversee a sidewalk improvement project along the 8 Street South and watermain improvements are planned for portions of Main Avenue, Center Avenue, 14 Street South and 10 Street North. Additional sidewalk improvement projects are also planned.
Despite the simultaneous projects, efficient traffic flow remains a high priority. “There will be lane closures, but traffic will still move,” said Trowbridge. Additional details about the projects can be found at cityofmoorhead.com/departments/engineering.
