“Mom, do you know that what you do brings so much joy to others,” said 11-year-old Cole when Veronica Wyland was deciding whether to return to the workplace. With strong family support, Wyland recently reentered the business world and opened her Dogs grooming services located in the Shops on Ten Mall. She had sold a previous business in order to provide full-time attention to her son Cole and daughter Kailyn. Her husband Troy, a sugar beet seed salesperson, is supportive of the new business adventure, as he was the chief carpenter in the grooming salon setup. Other family members include Remi, a golden retriever, Gracey, a beagle, and Zeke, a shih-tzu.
Growing up in Detroit Lakes, MN, Wyland has always had a soft spot in her heart for animals, and especially for dogs so opening Dogs pet grooming salon was a natural step. With over 16 years of experience and multiple awards and accolades for her pet grooming skills, Wyland is excited once again to offer a variety of professional grooming services for all breeds of dogs. She is quick to recognize her assistant manager, Jeni Chance, who is a graduate of Globe University/Minnesota School of Business with an associate degree in veterinary technology. As a team, they are open Monday – Friday 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.
In Wyland’s spare time from the business world, she is active in the Women’s Ministry at Bethel Church of Fargo as well as with Park Christian School, where her children attend.
It is generally acknowledged that the dog was the first domesticated animal and has been the most widely kept working, hunting, and pet animal in human history. According to the American Pet Products Association, American pets include an estimated 83 million dogs.
Pets have become very special to their owners, added Wyland. Millions of pets across the United States live like little humans. As people made pets more important parts of their families, personalized pet care became an important element when the animals made their move from the backyard to the family room.
Owning a pet has many rewards, but with the joys come responsibilities, especially with grooming. Wyland explained that grooming, which includes brushing and combing, bathing, clipping nails, and cleaning your pet’s ears and eyes, is important for several reasons. In addition to its cosmetic value, regular grooming (every 6-8 weeks) decreases the chance of health problems. Regular grooming also increases the bonding that occurs between owners and their pets, which is important for the emotional benefits of all involved.
Wyland understands that the first owner-pet separation can be difficult not only on the pet, but also on the owner. Good grooming routines help condition dogs and improve relationships with them. Therefore, she suggests prospective customers to visit her Dogs shop with their “family member” so they are able to adapt and feel more comfortable in a new setting before leaving them for grooming.
As important members of the family, Wyland added, there are many benefits and rewards for both the owner and for their dog with a regular grooming schedule. She encourages calls to Dogs with any questions about how to groom your friend properly. Don’t hesitate, call today for an appointment for a healthier and happier pet.
