On Sept. 5, Moorhead Area Public Schools celebrated the official opening of the renovated Jim Gotta Stadium and track facility with a number of special events.
Last November the Moorhead School Board approved a plan to renovate the track and field facility and the playing surface. The end result is a multi-use facility that will host track and field, soccer, football and softball games, physical education classes and community groups.
Highlights of the events included:
• The Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting kicked off events at 3 p.m.
• The national anthem prior to the football game was performed by more than 300 middle school orchestra students.
• Sky Dive Fargo landed on the field with the United States and Moorhead Spuds flags.
• The Moorhead High marching band performed at half time, debuting the new marching band uniforms.
Chamber Ambassador Brian Shawn opened the district’s ribbon cutting for the renovated field and track at Moorhead High School, and Dean Haugo, activities director, and Dr. Lynne Kovash, superintendent, shared brief remarks prior to the ribbon cutting.
The Moorhead High School Marching Band debuted the new marching band uniforms during the Greater Moorhead Days Parade at 6 p.m. The band later performed at half-time of the Spuds football game at the renovated Jim Gotta Stadium and field.
