Cruise Night founder honored with MoorHeart Award

Bill Bartholomay, the Moorhead auto enthusiast who helped establish the city’s Cruise Night three years ago, was honored Monday with the MoorHeart Award for service to the community. Mayor Shelly Carlson presented the award, a commissioned art piece by Hudi Kobrinsky, at Monday’s city council meeting.

Bill was nominated by former administrative intern Zoe Joyhnson, who wrote, “Bill has been a champion for anyone looking for some advice or help. Moorhead Cruise Night is as fantastic as it is because Bill is behind all of it, getting it together to ensure a fun and safe way for the community to come together and spend quality time outside. Borrowing trucks, helping setup stages and tents, moving sandbags, and leading when people need it … they aren’t easy tasks, but Bill does them with a smile.”

Bartholomay is also active in the Moorhead Business Association. Executive director Sheri Larson wrote that he is someone who “comes up to you with a smile and asks, ‘What can I do for you?’” She cited other service projects, including finding and repairing a car with the help of M State students to provide transportation to a Liberian refugee family.

“He knows everyone,” she said, “and can make things happen. Moorhead is lucky to have him in our corner.”

The MoorHeart award recognizes individuals and organizations who go above and beyond to demonstrate community by their actions and service. For information and to nominate, go to www.cityofmoorhead.com and search “MoorHeart.”
