Members of the Moorhead City Council lead special litter-gathering events next week to kick off the Parks and Recreation Department’s summer Restore Moorhead volunteer program. Residents of each ward are invited to join their representatives in cleaning up sites in their wards. To participate, simply show up from 4 to 7 p.m. each day.
Ward 1
Monday, April 18, join Heather Nesemeier and Laura Caroon along the 20th Street bike part and at Romkey Park. Meet at the park’s Neighborhood Recreation Center, 800 19th St. S., for supplies.
Ward 2
Council members Shelly Dahlquist and Matt Gilbertson pitch in on Tuesday, April 19, for trash pickup, buckthorn removal and maintenance of the Food Forest at M.B. Johnson Park, 3601 Oakport St. N. Supplies may be picked up at the small shelter. Bring sturdy gloves – buckthorn has prickles.
Ward 3
On Thursday, April 21, join council member Deb White for more buckthorn removal at Gooseberry Park. Park employees will cut down the sturdy invasive plants; volunteers will gather them to be hauled away. Again, gloves are a necessity. Gather at the small south shelter on the entrance road.
Ward 4
Chuck Hendrickson and Steve Linaas lead Ward 4’s event Friday, April 22. They’ll lead the mission to pick up trash along the 20th Street bike path through their ward and at Queens Park, 3201 20th St. S., where volunteers can pick up bags and check out safety vests.
In case of uncooperative weather, that day’s event will be postponed to the same day the week of April 25-29.
