The Clay County Commission has named Corey Bang manager of the county’s Solid Waste Management Office.

At their meeting Tuesday, the commissioners voted unanimously to promote Bang to the position vacated last month by the retirement of Kirk Rosenberger. Interviews for the position were held Friday, according to assistant county administrator Darren Brooke, who also serves as its human resource director.

Bang has worked with the Clay solid waste operation as a truck driver since 2016. His experience includes transferring waste and leachate between the transfer station, the county landfill south of Hawley and the five-county incinerator in Perham.

A native of Hawley, Bang is a graduate of Hawley High School. In 1992 he graduated from then-Jamestown College (now the University of Jamestown) with a degree in elementary education.

Before joining Clay County, he worked in grocery sales for Bischof Distributing of Bismarck for six years. He also spent 11 years as district manager of Bimbo Bakeries in Moorhead.

Commissioner Kevin Campbell, who with chairperson Jenny Mongeau served on the screening committee, observed that Bang’s years of experience at the landfill provided a wealth of experience in working with the county’s operations. “With the opening of the Resource Recovery Center, his knowledge will be extremely valuable,” he noted.

He and his wife live in Rollag.
