Build-A-Ton-aThon: 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Viking Ship Park at 202 1st Ave. N. in Moorhead. Come join FMCT staff, Moorhead residents, volunteers, and local organizations unite to enhance the city’s charm and character. At the Build-a-Ton-aThon, you’ll be part of a collaborative effort to construct installations which will later be moved to pre-identified areas around the city, breathing new life into underutilized spaces and creating vibrant community gathering points that embody the essence of Moorhead. Friday is Volunteer Group Night. Free.

Saturday, September 23

Build-a-Ton-aThon Opening Ceremony: 10:00 am. Viking Ship Park at 202 1st Ave. N. in Moorhead. Mayor Shelly Carlson will speak at 10:00 am. Hands-on building activities begin from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Food, music, activities, and games will be available throughout the day in the park. Free.

Fall in Fargo Festival: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm Saturday and 12:00 – 5:00 pm Sunday. Rheault Farm at 2902 25th St. S. in Fargo. 

The Red River Market: 10:00 am. Broadway Square in Downtown Fargo. Free.

Sugar Fest: 11:00 am start. Halstad, MN. Activities throughout the day include car show, parade, ATV & horse rides, bean bag tournament, bouncy houses and more. Smoked turkey dinner served from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Food trucks at 5:00 pm and dance to Silverado at 8:00 pm. Sweetness Contest at Halstad Lutheran Church. All entrants should drop off goodies by 11:00 am. Three categories: cookies, bars, and cupcakes.

Minnesota in the Vietnam War: 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Witness the history of the Vietnam War come to life with a presentation by historian and educator Arn Kind. Using maps, artifacts, and more, Kind will bring history alive with a colorful and realistic portrayal of the conflict, including the increasing commitment of five US presidents and the rise of anti-war protests at home. Geared for audiences ages 13 and up. Free.

Sunday, September 24

Moorhead Spud Football Spaghetti Feed & Silent Auction: 11:00 am. – 2:00 pm. Moorhead American Legion at 303 30th St. N. in Moorhead. Free will donation.

Build-a-Ton-aThon Grand Reveal and Block Party: 12:00 pm. Viking Ship Park at 202 1st Ave. N. in Moorhead. Builds will be finished and assembled from 12:00 – 3:00 pm. The grand reveal and block party will run from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. The newly created installations will be unveiled. The block party is open to the public and features food, music, and camaraderie. Free.

Monday, September 25

Midtown Bike & Pedestrian Trail Ribbon Cutting: 2:00 pm. Heritage Garden and Amphitheater on 1st St. S. between 5th and 6th Ave. S. in Moorhead. Join your friends and neighbors for a ribbon cutting followed by a celebratory walk, run, or roll (bring your own wheels) on the newly completed Midtown Trail.

Boat Ramp at MB Johnson Park Ribbon Cutting: 2:00 pm. MB Johnson Park at 3601 Oakport St. N. in Moorhead. Come for the ribbon cutting and see the fully completed dock, boat launch and ramp that provides easy access for all to the Red River.

Moorhead City Council Meeting: 5:30 pm. Hjemkomst Center at 202 1st Ave. N. in Moorhead. 

Lego Club: 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Join us for weekly LEGO build challenges where we work on problem solving, engineering, and critical thinking. This event is geared towards ages 5-10. Free.

Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia: 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Join us for a presentation by the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter to learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia, stages and risk factors, current research, treatments available for some symptoms, and Alzheimer’s Association resources. Free.

Moorhead Farmers’ Market: 3:30 – 6:30 pm. Hjemkomst Center at 202 1st Ave. N. in Moorhead. 

Storytime + Craft: 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Moorhead Public Library at 118 5th St. S. Join us for Storytime and a craft. Each week, we explore different themes with stories, songs, rhymes, flannel boards, and more. Storytime typically lasts for an hour and is geared for children ages 3-6, although children of all ages are welcome to join the fun. Craft supplies are provided free of charge.

Dancing at The Rourke with Lindy of the North: 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The Rourke Art Gallery + Museum at 521 Main Ave. in Moorhead. This is a free event for the community and begins with a basic swing dance lesson at 7 pm. Donations are welcome to support Lindy of the North and the museum. No experience or partner required.
