Eleven men who have worked for the city of Moorhead for more than 25 years were honored by the Moorhead City Council at its meeting Monday.
Bob Zimmerman and Tom Sopp have served the city since 1989. They are director of engineering and assistant superintendent of the Wastewater/Stormwater Department. Another 35-year veteran, park maintenance crew chief Neil Penner, was not present for the ceremony.
Four men have spent 30 years as part of the city staff: Darsey Thoen, biosolids program manager for the Wastewater/Stormwater; Michael Schroeder, park maintenance manage in Public Works; Fire Chief Jeff Wallin; and Chief of Police Shannon Monroe, who plans to retire at the end of February.
Only one of the four 25-year honorees, Police Sgt. First Class Robert Matheson, was present Monday. The other three: Former police narcotics team leader Jeffrey Larson; Fire Capt. Eric Berg; and firefighter Jason Dewar.
