Cherry Berry

“The customer is in control at CherryBerry, stated Jenn Novotny. General Manager Novotny of the Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, and West Fargo self-serve frozen yogurt CherryBerrys explained that customers have complete control. Upon entering, they simply grab a cup and start mixing. However, deciding among the 50 flavors and toppings is a daunting task. So many choices, so little time.

Novotny, originally from Hendrum, MN, grew up with her younger sister on the family farm learning a strong work ethic. On smaller farms, work is clearly valued, and it is done routinely and by everyone. However, the busy farm life did not stop her from being involved in school. Among the high school activities, Novotny was the volleyball student manger for two years, and that helped her hone her organizational skills, which are so essential in the business world.

After graduation from Norman County West, Novotny attended NDSU, majoring in child development and family science. After a year or so at the Dakota Montessori School, she decided to change course and entered into the world of retail with Lane Bryant, and later with Old Navy. After nine years as the operations manager at Old Navy, and with the last two-years in South Dakota, Novotny decided that the Fargo-Moorhead area is truly home and returned seeking a new adventure.

When owners Mike and Rachel Hofer created the CherryBerry general manager position for the area stores, it provided Novotny with numerous opportunities for leading a successful operation. As the general manger of the several local units, Novotny is in charge of the operational practices ensuring each runs smoothly, cleanly, and meets the budget and sales goals, including complying with any marketing campaigns and promotions. CherryBerry has locations in about 20 states across America, with plans to open more every year. Corporate headquarters for CherryBerry reside in Broken Arrow, OK.

Novotny explained that CherryBerry frozen yogurt shops follow a popular model recently created where customers self-serve over fifty varieties of yogurt along with dozens of traditional and unique toppings. It’s fun for customers to create individual and unique frozen gluten-free yogurt treats just as they like it. After customers have filled their cups, they weigh their creation on a scale and pay for it by the ounce.

Choosing a favorite flavor is a difficult task, but pressed for a number one flavor, Novotny concedes that the best selling is a toss-up between Cookie Monster (a take on cookies and cream) and the Birthday Bash. However, she is partial to the Salted Caramel Pretzel. Stop by and pick your favorite flavor.
