Peter Haberman, director of bands at Concordia College, was presented with the MoorHeart Award by Mayor Shelly Carlson at the city council meeting Monday. The award honors individuals and groups who go above and beyond to demonstrate community spirit by their actions and service.
Haberman was recognized for his willingness to go above and beyond for his students. He was nominated by Rev. Michelle Webber, who wrote that while his job is teaching music, “it doesn’t end there. He is a support system for his students, especially those who have recently moved to Moorhead.”
The campus pastor said, “As director of bands at Concordia College, Peter literally drives all over the state of Minnesota, finding remarkable musical talent and touting the benefits of living in Moorhead. He is responsible for countless talented students moving to Moorhead to pursue their degrees…. Once students move here to be part of the Concordia band program, he mentors them. He works tirelessly to make sure their experience here is fruitful for them and the band.”
Haberman was presented with the first of a newly commissioned commemorative work of art by local artist Dennis Krull. A team of volunteers from city boards and commissions selects the monthly recipients from nominations by Moorhead residents.
