MNDOT, CITY OF MOORHEAD TO HOST JANUARY 14 PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE FOR FUTURE HWY 10/75 PROJECT
MOORHEAD – The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the City of Moorhead invite the public to an open house on Tuesday, January 14, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, to learn more about the future Highway 10/75 project and updated construction timeline. The open house will be held at the Hjemkomst Center, located at 202 1 Ave N, Moorhead.
The Highway 10/75 project is scheduled for construction in 2027. The project includes resurfacing, sidewalk upgrades for improved pedestrian access, and traffic signal replacement on Highway 75/8 St between Main Avenue and 24 Ave. A preventative maintenance surface treatment, known as a slurry seal, will be performed on Highway 10 from the Red River to 10 St.
Once the slurry seal is completed, Highway 10 from the Red River to Highway 75/8 Street will be restriped to three lanes. This will serve as a pilot project to allow MnDOT, MetroCOG and the City of Moorhead to evaluate the impacts and changes to traffic flow and mobility with the new underpass at 11 St.
For more information about the project, visit mndot.gov/d4/projects/moorhead.
There will be no formal presentation, the public can stop in whenever it’s convenient between 4:30 and 6:30 pm. Project staff will be available to provide information about the overall project, projected timeline, community and traffic impacts during construction, and to answer questions.

MOORHEAD LED METRO COLLABORATION AWARDED $2 MILLION GRANT FOR USDOT SMART SIGNAL SYSTEM
MOORHEAD – The cities of Moorhead, Fargo, and West Fargo, in collaboration with NDDOT, MnDOT, Metro COG, MATBUS, Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute, and several engineering and technology vendors, are excited to announce a collaborative award of $2 million for a regionalized and coordinated SMART Signal System through the USDOT SMART Grant program. The Moorhead-led team competed against 308 eligible proposals to be one of 34 successful recipients.
The proposed project intends to deploy strategic field hardware and cloud-based software to better respond to traffic incidents and disruptions, prepare the system for them, and predict traffic responses. This is a big first step towards a Traffic Operations Center (TOC), which can manage regional traffic patterns and incidents on a 24/7 basis to enhance transportation safety, improve transit travel-time reliability, and improve equity through systemwide resiliency. TOCs are commonplace across the nation’s metro areas, and this project will not only bring the region on par with national practices but also help make the Moorhead-Fargo-West Fargo area one of the country’s most predictable and resilient transportation systems.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) authorized and appropriated $100 million annually for the Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Grants Program. SMART funds State, local, and Tribal governments to conduct demonstration projects focused on advanced smart city or community technologies and systems to improve transportation efficiency and safety. The program is structured in two stages, in which applicants initially seek Stage 1 Planning and Prototyping Grants. Selected projects are then eligible to apply for Stage 2 Implementation Grants. Stage 1 Grants are capped at $2 million and an 18-month period; Stage 2 Grants are anticipated to be up to $15 million and 36 months.

MOORHEAD PUBLIC SERVICE RECEIVES NATIONAL COMMENDATION FOR ELECTRIC RESTORATION EFFORTS IN RESPONSE TO HURRICANE MILTON
MOORHEAD – Moorhead Public Service (MPS) has received a national commendation from the American Public Power Association for its support in electric power restoration efforts in response to Hurricane Milton.
On October 7, 2024, MPS sent four linemen to assist the communities within the Kissimmee Utility Authority and the Orlando Utilities Commission, which suffered widespread outages as a result of Hurricane Milton.
Mutual aid is at the heart of what public power does. At its core, it’s about neighbors helping neighbors—even when our neighbor is a fellow utility hundred (or thousands) of miles away. “MPS is proud to have linemen that are able to help our neighbors in need,” said General Manager Travis Schmidt.
MPS participates in the American Public Power Association’s Mutual Aid Network, which coordinates with utilities and authorities during widespread power outages.

M STATE – EMR COURSE PARTNERSHIP
MOORHEAD – M State, Sanford and the Moorhead High School Career Academy are partnering on a new emergency medical responder course for Moorhead High School students. Goals of the partnership include inspiring students to work in healthcare and creating a workforce pipeline for the community. It is the first time M State and Sanford have partnered on a high school-level EMR/EMT training program.
