MSU MOORHEAD LAUNCHES TWO NEW GRADUATE PROGRAMS IN CYBERSECURITY AND BUSINESS ANALYTICS
MOORHEAD – Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) is now accepting applications to two new graduate programs for Spring 2025: Master of Science (MS) in Cybersecurity and Master of Science (MS) in Business Analytics.
Both programs will offer accelerated pathways, with students able to complete their degree in as little as 12 months. These programs will be visa-eligible with STEM designation for international students, meaning students in the program will be eligible for three years of Optional Practical Training (OPT) upon graduation.
The MS in Cybersecurity will offer a mix of on-campus and online courses, allowing students to connect with like-minded individuals. Graduates of the Cybersecurity graduate program will develop skills and knowledge to protect computer systems, networks, and data from cyber threats.
“With the increasing frequency of high-profile tech breaches, companies desperately require employees skilled in securing corporate networks,” said Peter Sherman, Dean of the College of Business, Analytics and Communication, about the importance of the new MS in Cybersecurity.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BAG SALE HIGHLIGHTS SPECIAL WEEK
MOORHEAD – Mayor Shelly Carlson has proclaimed Oct. 20-26 as National Friends of Libraries Week in Moorhead, which recognizes the year-round dedication of the Friends of the Moorhead Library.
The volunteer organization holds its semiannual book sale beginning Friday, Oct. 18 – a bag sale, with patrons receiving all the volumes they can fit in a bag for just $5. The sale includes hundreds of fiction and nonfiction titles, including many children’s books, all donated by community supporters. As books are sold, more will be brought out of storage, introducing many that have not been available in previous sales.
The sale continues until Monday, Oct. 28, in honor of National Friends of Libraries Week during regular library hours: Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
“We appreciate the Moorhead community’s support of Friends and the Moorhead Library — especially as we work to support the opening of the new library community center,” said Karen Jacowitz, president of the Friends group. “However, our support couldn’t happen without having our dedicated group of volunteers, who help throughout the year.” The volunteers help at library events and raise funds through book sales, the spring social silent auction, and Giving Hearts Day.
For more information on the group, go to www.friendsofthemoorheadlibrary.org or stop by the Friends table at the upcoming presentation by Minnesota author Kao Kalia Yang at 2 p.m. Oct. 26. Besides sharing her experience writing across genres and for different audiences, Yang will discuss her latest books, including “Where Rivers Part: A Story of My Mother’s Life,” which chronicles her mother’s journey from war-torn Laos to a refugee camp and eventually to the United States.
