AERIAL SPRAYING FOR MOSQUITOES NOT PLANNED AT THIS TIME
MOORHEAD – Nuisance mosquito numbers have risen rapidly in Moorhead and the greater F-M metro area over the past week due to warm, wet conditions.
In March 2023, the Moorhead City Council approved conditions that defined when the City of Moorhead would consider aerial spraying. In order to aerial spray, Moorhead must be in the “HIGH” risk category, which requires that disease transmission has been confirmed in the area. While mosquito numbers are high now, there have not been confirmed cases of disease spread such as West Nile. This factor places Moorhead in the “LOW” risk category — which does not include aerial spraying — according to the chart approved by the City Council.
While some areas of the metro are doing aerial spraying, Moorhead will not be participating at this time. If you think the City should do aerial spraying, please contact your Ward’s City Council members.
Residents are encouraged to take personal precautions, including wearing long sleeves/pants, using mosquito repellants, and avoiding outdoor activities around dusk/dawn when mosquitoes are most active. Also be sure to drain any standing water in yards that may serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
FORESTRY STAFF BEGIN TREATING HEALTHY ASH TREES
MOORHEAD – City Forestry staff recently received training and have started treating ash trees to protect them from emerald ash borer (EAB), which was detected in Moorhead this year. These treatments are done to preserve large, healthy ash trees.
Treatments started June 20 in the Meadows and Morningside neighborhoods, where EAB was first detected. Micro-injections of emamectin benzoate are effective against EAB for two to three years. Any tree that has been treated for EAB will have a metal tag on the trunk indicating that it is protected.
Approximately 350 ash trees have also been removed. Those trees will be replaced this fall or next spring. Homeowners will be asked about replacement species preference prior to installation.
If you have any questions concerning treatment, tree planting and removal, or EAB in general, please visit the City Forestry website or contact the Forestry division at 218.299.5422.
PROPERTY ASSESSMENT REVIEWS TO OCCUR IN SELECTED NEIGHBORHOODS
MOORHEAD – The City of Moorhead Assessing Division will be conducting residential property reviews in selected neighborhoods in the coming weeks. Clearly identified City assessors may be walking around, viewing and taking photos of your properties exterior.
Property reviews help the City Assessor determine current and accurate property values as required by the State of Minnesota. An interior inspection ensures the most accurate valuation.
To schedule an interior inspection, or if you would like to confirm any data regarding the interior of your home in lieu of a physical interior inspection, please call the Assessor’s Office at 218.299.5310. Please also call with any other questions about the assessment process.
