A busy spring in the veteran’s world

Veteran’s Corner

Happy April everyone, spring is just around the corner. It’s been a pretty busy time in the Veterans world.
On March 29th we celebrated Vietnam War Veterans Day. An event was held at the Fargo VFW with special guest speaker Steve Poitras, he shared with us a meaningful part of his life. We followed it up with a picnic lunch provided by our friends at Beverage Wholesalers. We are already looking forward to next year.
Speaking of Vietnam, on the 30th of this month marks the end of the Vietnam war with the fall of Saigon. The 50th anniversary will be observed throughout the land. April 26th through May 2nd The Fargo Air Museum will be hosting Vietnam Memorial week.
A group of Veterans and supporters were invited to the PRCA rodeo at the Fargo dome this year. We were asked to carry out and unfurl a huge American Flag. It was a wonderful experience. What is more American than rodeo? Despite the short notice (I was called Thursday evening at around 5 requesting 20 people for Saturdays show) We were able to form a composite group (Fargo Memorial Honor Guard, VFW, American Legion Riders and Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association and AMVETS riders) and accomplish the mission. Additionally, we were given full VIP treatment, the people who helped really felt great for the appreciation shown. It was a great experience for everybody.
In closing on Monday April 7th we (Fargo Memorial Honor Guard) will be in Bismarck for the House Appropriations committee hearing for SB2265 (Funding for the building project at the Fargo National Cemetery). We need to pass this committee then on the house vote and Governor’s signature. Please contact your local Representatives and urge them to Vote Yes on this very important project that is so needed at the “Arlington National Cemetery” of North Dakota.
