Moorhead Schools partners to launch Education That Works for students, teachers and future workforce
During Tech Camp at Fargo’s Davies High School June 10, the three metro schools districts teamed with United Way and the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation to launch Education That Works and the website www.EducationThatWorksNDMN.org.
The partnering organizations have been meeting to examine the 21st century skills and work to enhance K-12 curriculum with project-based learning that includes a stronger focus on measuring and teaching the 4C’s of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.
The goals of the Education That Works collaboration include providing enhanced professional development for current educators, preparing tomorrow’s educators differently, and communicating 21st century skill developments with stakeholders and the business community.
Brenda Cain, a teacher in the Fargo Public Schools, spoke about how project-based learning is impacting her students and her classroom. “Students are learning the same knowledge and skills in more authentic ways,” she said.
Dr. Lynne Kovash, superintendent of Moorhead Area Public Schools, acknowledged that the Education That Works initiative models the 4C’s of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity that the partners want for students. While it can be a challenge to work across state lines, with creativity the partners are having the conversations, she said.
“What can we do together?” Kovash asked. “That’s what’s so important. Really think about the student at the center and what can we do with the United Way, the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation and the three school districts — what can we do together to make sure all of our students are successful.”
