The Fargo Project receives
a 2014 ArtPlace America Grant
FARGO, N.D. (June 30, 2014)– The Fargo Project has been selected as one of 55 recipients to receive a grant from ArtPlace America (ArtPlace) to support creative placemaking across the country. The $450,000 grant will implement World Commons Gardens – a master plan to transform Rabanus Park, an existing 18-acre storm water detention basin, into a multifunctional commons. World Gardens Commons will celebrate multiple cultures, provide public amenities, and restore prairie ecology.
“We are thrilled to be recognized by ArtPlace. Many people in our community have come together to develop The Fargo Project master plan,” said Fargo City Commissioner Melissa Sobolik. “To now be able to continue our efforts to refine and implement the specific features of the plan, and continue our partnerships on this project are wonderful.”
The next step of this project is to initiate construction. The City of Fargo and the Fargo Park District will work with local artists to transform the park over the next few years. There will be many opportunities for community members to get involved, and the project can be tracked on our Facebook site: The Fargo Project.
“Investing in and supporting the arts have a profound impact on the social, physical, and economic futures of communities,” said ArtPlace Executive Director Jamie L. Bennett. “Projects like these demonstrate how imaginative and committed people are when it comes to enhancing their communities with creative interventions and thoughtful practices.”
To date, ArtPlace has awarded $56.8 million through 189 grants to projects serving 122 communities across 42 states and the District of Columbia. For more information about ArtPlace, visit www.artplaceamerica.org.
