Fargo Fire Department

Responds to a Deck Fire

Fargo, ND (April 14th, 2014) –The Fargo Fire Department responded to a report of smoke and flames coming from an apartment building at 5400 Amber Valley Parkway.  When firefighters arrived on scene they found a small fire located on a second floor exterior deck with fire spreading up the exterior siding.  The first engine on scene quickly extinguished the fire with a hose line. Additional crews were brought into the scene to ensure that the fire had not extended into the exterior wall of the structure.

The occupants of the apartment were not home at the time of the fire.  The family’s dog was located inside the apartment and was unharmed.

Firefighters were able to remove siding and wall material to expose the charred area. Fire damage was contained to the exterior of the home with a small amount of smoke damage inside.

A fire investigator on scene found that the fire was caused by unattended smoking materials located in an unapproved container on the second floor exterior deck.
