Moorhead Police Assist Fargo

Police with Robbery Arrest

On March 13th, at approximately 6:28pm, Moorhead officers overheard radio traffic on the Fargo channel about a reported shooting involving a known Moorhead resident. Information given to dispatch at that time was that a female had been assaulted and shot by a female suspect. While officers were checking the suspect’s last known address, a disturbance call was received from an address in North Moorhead with the same suspect mentioned as a responsible party.

As three officers approached the disturbance, a car containing six people left and a witness indicated that the people in the vehicle were the responsible parties. With the information provided involving a handgun and the report of the same female suspected in a second disturbance, a high risk traffic stop was conducted in the 700 block of 11 St N with the assistance of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. In the interest of public safety, 11th St N was closed off for a brief period until all occupants of the vehicle were removed safely and identified.

Through simultaneous investigations by both Moorhead and Fargo Police Departments, the female suspect, Cynthia Butcher (33) was arrested for robbery (felony) at the request of Fargo Police. She is currently being held in the Clay County Jail. The driver of the vehicle, Ronald Butcher (37) was cited and released for driving after revocation.

Minnesota Cities Participation Program funds just released

The City of Moorhead is partnering with Minnesota Housing to make resources available to first-time homebuyers.

Homebuyers can take advantage of the Minnesota Cities Participation Program funding resources through the Minnesota Housing Start Up loan program, which offers fixed interest rates and three down payment and closing cost loan options to eligible borrowers. The program’s home price limit in Moorhead is $237,031. Maximum household income limits of $73,900 – $84,985 apply, depending upon household size.

Eligible homebuyers can access these loans at participating lenders in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Visit www.mnhousing.gov for a full list of approved lenders and to learn about other program options for first-time and repeat homebuyers.

“Minnesota Housing’s low-interest mortgage products, combined with the support of the City of Moorhead and local lenders will help families achieve homeownership,” said Minnesota Housing Commissioner Mary Tingerthal.

For more than 40 years, Minnesota Housing has provided access to safe, decent and affordable housing and to build stronger communities across the state. In partnership with lenders, Minnesota Housing offers homebuyer loans, downpayment and closing cost assistance, a first time homebuyer tax credit program, and home improvement loans, as well as affordable rental housing throughout the state.
