Fargo Fire Department Extinguishes a Fire

in an Apartment Building at 3233 16th Ave. S.

FARGO, N.D. (Feb. 1, 2014) – At 4:23 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, the Fargo Fire Department was dispatched to fire alarms going off in an apartment on the second floor of a building located at 3233 16th Ave. S. in Fargo. The caller indicated they could smell smoke.

The first fire crew to enter the building encountered heavy smoke conditions in apartment 204. Fire crews advanced hose lines into the apartment and with the use of a thermal imaging camera located the fire in the floor space between the first and second floor apartments. The fire was quickly spreading through the floor space. To extinguish the fire, it was necessary for crews to remove ceiling from the first floor apartment directly below. At the time of the fire, no occupants were home in either of the first or second floor involved apartments. There were no injuries as a result of the fire. Other occupants of the complex will be displaced for a short time while the structural integrity of the building is being evaluated.

The fire caused heavy fire and smoke damage to the first and second floor apartments where the fire was located.

The fire originated in the floor space between the first and second floor apartments. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. A damage estimate is not available at this time.

The Fargo Fire Department emphasizes the importance of working smoke detectors and encourages everyone to check their smoke detectors at least twice a year.
