FARGO, N.D. (Dec. 23, 2013) – Do you need to find your kids something to do over the holidays? If so, the Fargo Public Library has some fun, free events scheduled to help parents make the most of their kids’ school break.
First, kids and families can take in a screening of “Despicable Me 2” (rated PG) at either the downtown Main Library or the Dr. James Carlson Library on Friday, Dec. 27, starting at 1 p.m. Free popcorn will be served. Call the Children’s Librarian at 241-1495 for details.
Also, kids ages 12 and under are invited to create a LEGO masterpiece for the Fargo Public Library’s annual LEGO Mania Design Contest. Kids build their original creation at home and then bring it to the downtown Main Library for judging and display on Monday, Dec. 30 starting at 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded in several categories. Builders select Schneider
The North Dakota Association of Builders announced today the selection of Kim Schneider as their new state Executive Officer. Schneider previously was Director of the American Lung Association in North Dakota and worked in advertising firms in Fargo and Minneapolis.
“Kim Schneider is an excellent addition to our Builders team and will work closely with our members and elected leaders to represent our industry,” NDAB President-elect Ken Callahan said. “Our 2000 members are fortunate to have someone of Kim’s caliber working on their behalf.”
“Kim brings a great mix of experience and energy to the NDAB,” President Jason Eid said. “We are pleased to welcome her to our home building team.”
The North Dakota Association of Builders is located in Bismarck and represents six local associations in Bismarck-Mandan, Williston, Minot, Dickinson, Fargo and Grand Forks along with over 2000 members. Their mission is to represent the professional building industry through legislation, information and education. Schneider is a graduate of Fargo North High and Minnesota State University Moorhead and currently makes her home in Bismarck.
Lake Agassiz Regional Library
Closed December 31 at 5 p.m. and
January 1 in Observance of New Year’s
All Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL) branches and LINK sites, including the Regional Office in Moorhead, will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31 and be closed all day on Wednesday, January 1 in observance of New Year’s. Regular hours resume Thursday, January 2, 2014.
LARL serves the residents of Becker, Clay, Clearwater, Mahnomen, Norman, Polk and Wilkin counties, with branch libraries in Ada, Bagley, Barnesville, Breckenridge, Climax, Crookston, Detroit Lakes, Fertile, Fosston, Hawley, Mahnomen, McIntosh and Moorhead and LINK sites in Cormorant, Frazee, Gonvick, Halstad, Hendrum, Lake Park, Rothsay, Shelly, Twin Valley and Ulen.

Bethany’s Hestdalen Receives Certification
Tiffeny Hestdalen RN of Bethany Retirement Living has received Board Certification in Gerontological Nursing. She is a Nurse Manager at Bethany on 42nd.
Hestdalen is a graduate of Dickinson High School in Dickinson, ND. She attended college at M-State and Minnesota State University Moorhead in Moorhead, MN. She graduated from RN school in June of 2011. Hestdalen began as an LPN for Bethany in May of 2010 and was named Nurse Manager in April 2012.
Sprinkler System Extinguishes a
Fire in a High Rise Building at 101 2nd St. S.
FARGO, N.D. (Dec. 17, 2013) – At 9:06 p.m. on, Tuesday, Dec. 17, the Fargo Fire Department was dispatched to fire alarms activated in the 22 story high rise located at 101 2nd St. S. in Fargo.
Fire crews arrived to find water running down the exterior of the building over the front entrance on the East side. Inside, the fire alarm panel indicated alarms on the 13th, 14th, and 15th floors. Fire crews discovered that there had been a fire in apartment 1511 on the 15th floor. The building sprinkler system had completely extinguished the fire. The occupant, who was still inside when fire crews entered, was escorted from the apartment. She did not sustain any injuries.
The Fargo Fire Department responded with 16 personnel on four engines, one truck, and one command vehicle. Fargo Police, FM Ambulance, and the Red Cross also assisted on scene. The fire caused minor fire and smoke damage to the apartment where the fire was located. However, there was significant water damage to the apartment as well as the first 15 floors. A damage estimate is not available at this time. Fargo Housing Authority personnel are on scene assessing whether or not tenants may be displaced because of the water damage.
The fire started when combustibles came in contact with an unattended candle that was next to a bed. The occupant told investigators she had lit the candle and then went into the other room. She returned to find that a pillow and bed spread were on fire. She attempted to extinguish the fire but was unsuccessful. Shortly after, the sprinkler system activated and extinguished the fire.
The Fargo Fire Departments reminds everyone to use caution when burning candles and to never leave them unattended.
