Poetry & Writing Workshop with Becca Barniskis:

Get in touch with your inner poet! Renowned Minnesota poet Becca Barniskis will teach one-hour creative writing workshops. Becca is the author of several books and is the editor of “The Teaching Artist Journal.” Becca’s workshops are fun and everyone becomes a writer! She is an artist in residence in the schools in the twin cities area and works with the Perpich Center for the Arts.

“Red” Performance:

Location: Theatre B at 716 Main Ave in Fargo

A moving and compelling account of one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century, Mark Rothko, whose struggle to accept his growing riches and praise became his ultimate undoing.

West Fest:

Events kick off with the West Fargo Cruise Night on Thursday at 5:00pm. Friday’s events include the West Fargo High School Football game and Packer Jam from 7:00pm – 1:00am. Saturday’s events include a 10K Run/2 Mile Walk/5 K Run at 8:00am, a parade at 1:00pm, Streets Alive from 2:30 – 5:00pm, Family Fun activities from 2:30 – 5:00pm, and a Firefighters Ball from 8:00pm – 12:00am. “Escanaba in Da Moonlight” Performance:

Location: Fire Hall Theatre at 412 2nd Ave N in Grand Forks

Hunting season is about to open in Escanaba and the boys have gathered to prep for their next adventure. In the meanwhile, there are stories to be told. But here’s a hunting story to out-do all hunting stories, a story you will never forget even if you want to! WARNING: Crude humor crossing. Chalk it Up Sidewalk Festival:

Location: The Rourke Art Museum at 521 Main Ave. in Moorhead

Sidewalk chalk artist Shawn McCann will work on a 3-D artwork based on a well-known children’s story, other events throughout the weekend include learning the art of chalking, storytime, an open chalk area and an artist talk.

The Backstage Project presents Sneaky Wild Oats:

Location: Empire Arts Center at 415 Demers Ave in Grand Forks

Stop by the Empire Arts Center on Saturday, September 21 and take in some jazz standards with Sneaky Wild Oats, featuring Peggy and John Bartunek, Mike Bartunek, and Andy Stermer. Honkin’ Haulin Hands on Trucks:

Get into the drivers’ seat of over 25 trucks, tractors and construction equipment including a crane, snow plow, grader, pay loader, street sweeper, fire truck, Bobcat skid-steer, 18-wheeler and much more. Carriage rides and barrel car rides will be available. The first 200 kids will receive a free t-shirt. Youth will also receive a personal driver’s license.

The Road to Little Rock:

Location: Fargo Theatre

This new documentary from director Art Phillips tells the passionate story of Judge Ronald Davies’ role in the Civil Rights movement. Panel discussion following the film feature Dr. Terrence Roberts of the Little Rock Nine.

Sarpsborg Norway presents: The Frimurere Sangforeningen Male Choir Concert:

Location: Masonic Center Auditorium in Grand Forks, ND – Bruce Avenue and South 5th Street.

Gordon Lightfoot in Concert:

Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot has enjoyed astounding success in folk, folk rock and country music. Known for such hits as “If You Could Read My Mind” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” he has recorded 20 albums and has five Grammy nominations. A member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Lightfoot also has been decorated with the highest honors awarded by the Canadian government to a civilian.

Roger Radley Performance:

Roger Radley started out his career majoring in Pre-Law and Criminal Justice at the University of Wisconsin. But after graduation, a co-worker convinced Roger to join a comedy group, and in no time, Roger had won the American Dream world finals in Atlantic City in a competition against over 400 comedians from all over the U.S. Since then, he has produced a radio show, portrayed NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace in the movie “Dare to Dream” and shared the stage with Waylon Jennings, Tom Jones, B.B. King, Paula Poundstone, Willie Nelson, and George Carlin.

Iron and Wine made its Nonesuch Records debut with Ghost on Ghost in the US on April 16, 2013. Ghost on Ghost is the fifth release from singer-songwriter Sam Beam, using the pen name Iron and Wine. The album was produced by Beam’s longtime associate Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Califone, Fruit Bats) and follows 2011’s Kiss Each Other Clean, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard chart to critical acclaim. The first three Iron and Wine albums, released on Sub Pop, were The Creek Drank the Cradle (2002), Our Endless Numbered Days (2004), and The Shepherd’s Dog (2007).

Coach Herman Boone (Remember the Titans) Lecture:

Lance E. Johnson has served as house organist of the Fargo Theatre for the past 40 years. This September Johnson will offer a series of four free concerts. Programming will include audience requests. The Theatre’s concession stand will be open. Guests are also allowed to bring in bag lunches. Concerts typically last 40 minutes.
