District 4 DFL Senator Kent Eken was honored to introduce legislation on February Fourth that will enable businesses in greater Minnesota to attract and retain young workers. Senator Eken is chief author of the Greater Minnesota Internship Tax Credit Bill that would offer tax credits for employers in greater Minnesota to create internships for qualifying students.

The bill’s benefits are threefold, with interns gaining valuable real world job experience, employers being able to tap and develop local talent and cities in Greater Minnesota retaining a young and knowledgeable work force.

Senator Eken said, “We’re losing more of our young people to the metropolitan area and this is an attempt to try and keep young people in our communities in greater Minnesota by making those connections that are so important with our business community and hopefully providing economic growth, plus keeping young people where their roots are and the communities where they are getting their education.”
