Two suspects in custody after crime spree

Two suspects are in custody and in the Clay County Jail pending appropriate charges once the investigations are completed. Moorhead Police was alerted to a reported robbery that occurred in Fargo, shortly before Moorhead’s South Stop N’ Go located at 1702 30th Avenue South reported being robbed at 4:00 p.m. As officers were responding to this incident, an alarm was reported at the Orton’s convenience store located at 725 30th Avenue South. Minutes later, the Casey’s General Store located at 707 37th Avenue South reported a robbery. Approximately 15 minutes later the Holiday Gas Station located at 3475 28th Avenue South reported a robbery.

Initial information was consistent between witnesses. A black male suspect allegedly attempted to purchase an item, however would reach over the till and steal money prior to running out. No weapons were displayed.

Through an outstanding collaborative law enforcement response from assisting agencies including the Clay County Sheriff’s office, Minnesota and North Dakota State Patrols, Dilworth PD and numerous area investigators, the suspect vehicle and the two occupants were located at 9th Avenue at 19th Street South. Both males were taken into custody. The investigations are on-going.

Cash believed to be from the thefts was recovered from their vehicle. Identification of the suspects and charges will be provided at a later time once the investigations are complete.

Bowl for Kids’ Sake Gearing up for Yearly Challenge

…By participating, you can help kids right here in the Fargo-Moorhead community.

Bowl for Kids’ Sake is the largest annual fund-raising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of The Village Family Service Center, and participants are gearing up to collect pledges before the event dates.

Friday, March 1, 3:30 p.m.

Friday, March 8, 3:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Friday, March 15, 3:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Jody Whiting, Starion Financial, is chair of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Advisory Committee. She said, “It is so important for people to understand that Bowl for Kids’ Sake is about more than raising money; it is about helping children have a positive role model and friend.”

The goal for the 2013 BFKS Campaign is to recruit 90 teams to participate. A successful Bowl for Kids’ Sake campaign means more children will be matched with the caring mentor they need.

BBBS of The Village is the largest and the oldest established mentoring program in the Fargo-Moorhead area. In 2012, the program served 243 at-risk youth by providing positive role models who help children build assets that lead them towards a positive, healthy life. Big Brothers and Big Sisters commit a few hours a week to building a friendship with a child while participating in activities within the community.

To register a team, call BBBS of The Village at 451-4875, or go online to www.bbbsfargo.org, click on the Bowl for Kids’ Sake logo, and follow the instructions. Online registration allows participants to request pledges using email templates they can easily send to friends and family.

Hornbacher’s Foods is the title sponsor. They will be selling paper bowling pins at all of their locations for $1 each, from February 20th – March 5. All proceeds of the pin sales will go to BBBS—last year 26,570 pins were sold. Other major sponsors include Bell State Bank and Trust, Eide Bailly, Keller Williams/Eric Hatch Team, McDonald’s, Mutual of America, Scheels, Starion Financial, US Bank, Valley News Live and West Acres.
