Our bill for some state funds SB2265 passed the ND Senate by a unanimous vote. Now we will proceed to the house and repeat the process. If you would be so kind, please go to the North Dakota Legislative branch website, https://ndlegis.gov there is a short video there about how to upload testimony, We are asking for as much community support as possible for this funding. If we are able to get this bill passed into law we will have the last bit of funding for our building project.
One of the questions I was asked is why wont the Federal Govt build, long story short-It is a rural initiative cemetery and there wasn’t any plan to build a structure. Thus no Federal money for this.
A comparison I often receive is the State Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. It is a beautiful site and facility. The families and our Veterans are not outside conducting ceremonies in the brutal cold and wind. By being a State facility they can receive grants and funds from the VA. But us in Fargo cannot, because the VA cannot award grants to themselves. I’m working on getting the amount that the State Cemetery received from the Veterans administration. Stay tuned. So in that context us asking the State for funds is not really asking a lot for the same type of facilities for our Veterans and their families.
