The Loop Reflects Innovation and Community Connection
The new Moorhead Community Center and Public Library is embracing a dynamic identity along with a new building: The Loop. This change reflects the exciting role this building will serve as a hub for learning, creativity, and community engagement.
The name The Loop symbolizes connection—linking people to knowledge, resources, and each other. It also represents Moorhead’s commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and inclusivity, ensuring that everyone who visits has access to opportunities for growth.
“The Loop reflects the combination of community center features with the public library in one incredible building. The Moorhead Public Library will maintain its identity in the location while offering expanded amenities,” said Mayor Shelly Carlson. “The Loop is a fun play on words to encourage people to gather, learn and stay “in the Loop” in Downtown Moorhead. Plus, there’s a beautiful walking loop around the interior of the second floor to keep us active year-round!”
A library is more than just books—it’s a place where people gather, exchange ideas, and stay connected. The Loop embodies that spirit, creating a welcoming space for all ages to explore, discover, and engage.
The Loop will be a 48,000 square foot multi-use public space serving as a central hub for families, businesses, and individuals of all ages and abilities. The facility’s design centers around the idea of a 21 Century library and emerged from extensive community input. Key features like a year-round playground and indoor walking loop reflect the priorities of Moorhead residents. The Loop will open in Spring of 2026 and all features will be free and open to the community.
